Friendship. True friendship is one of the many components of love. Merriam Webster's dictionary defines a friends as "a person who you like and enjoy being with". Oddly enough, Jessica and I didn't start out as friends. I can't remember why we didn't like each other, but at the same time, I can't forget us getting detention together for throwing paper at each other.
We met in second grade, both students at Travis Elementary. My best friend at the time/Jessica's cousin, Tiffany "Tippy" McMurray, was having her 7th birthday party and I was so excited!!! A slumber party, my absolute favorite! Things were going according to plan, I arrived at Tippy's house ready to watch movies, play games, and most importantly, create dance routines! I wasn't there long before Tippy dropped a major bomb on me,"I didn't want to tell you this before because I knew you wouldn't come, Jessica is staying the night too". Geez, Tippy!!! Jessica, the same Jessica that I just sat in detention with, I knew it was going to be a loooonnnggg night.
Things were a little weird at first, but surprisingly enough the slumber party went off without a hitch! Besides can you really stay mad while creating dance routines and eating cake-No! Most importantly, that night, Jessica and I started down our path to becoming the very best of friends!
Jessica knows EVERYTHING about me, my shortcomings and accomplishments. Distance nor the reality that people grow apart has kept our friendship from flourishing. We can go months without talking and pick back up where we left off. That is true friendship, friendship that will last a lifetime.
My wish for Jess and Hilary is simple, may they always remember to stay each other's best friend.
